When it comes to horror, what better place to start than Edgar Allan Poe? Here we have his Collected works - enough to keep you creeped out forever. By Bram Stoker we have the classic Dracula and twenty more of his books. The Invisible Man by H.G. Wells is favorite, as is the Turn of the Screw by Henry James. The Wendigo by Aldgernon Blackwood is a freaky read, as is his book The Damned. And then there’s The Damned Thing by Ambrose Bierce. The classic of a man turning into a bug, Metamorphoses, by Franz Kafka, is sure to please.

H.P. Lovecraft is a master of horror: his Call of Cthulhu and Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath are good reads. Robert Louis Stevenson’s Strange Case of Doctor Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a classic of horror, as is Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Let’s not forget Jane Austen: she takes a satirical slant on the Gothic horror novel in her fantastic Northanger Abbey. Wait, don’t forget about the Brothers Grimm for the kids!
